The town of Famara on the north west coast of Lanzarote is recognised as one of the most beautiful places in Lanzarote and the Canary islands.
The area offers a break away from the hustle and bussle of the more populated main stream tourist areas and gives a unique view of the natural rugged beauty of Lanzarote.
Famara is split into the Famara bungalows and the town of Famara, know as ‘La Caleta de Famara’.
The Famara bungalows were built around 25 years ago by Norwegians looking to build winter holiday homes. Since then the area has gained popularity due to its amazing position and views.
The Famara bungalows are now a very popular holiday destination enjoying a large amount of repeat business. The area is not very marketted so needs a bit of finding, once found and enjoyed it has a tremendous draw. It is possilbe to find a famara bungalow to rent for around 500 euros per week that sleeps four in two bedrooms.
Famara is something of an alternative village, away from the tourist route.
The place with its small white houses dotted about in random fashion, lies in a wide, open landscape at the foot of mighty cliffs.
The roads in the village are mostly just sandy tracks and the beach is wild and left to nature. There is a complex of bungalows which climbs the slope which can be rented and make a fantastic holiday away fro it all. A northerly wind blows almost always, creating great waves for the happy surfer. Surfers come here to ride the world-class waves; the rest of us come to just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet….
Famara bungalows…
are unique – located on the lower slopes of the cliffs, they are half-moon shaped and set in their own gardens, and all are just a stone’s throw from the beach.
In Famara one can eat well at a reasonable price, especially if one enjoys fresh local fish. One can sit here with the unique backdrop of cliffs and listen to the sound of the waves.
Famara is unlike anywhere else on Lanzarote. It boasts the longest beach on the island, with a stunning backdrop of 2000′ cliffs.
People love Famara because of its laid-back atmosphere, barely touched by tourism.
There is a restaurant, bar and shop on site, as well as a communal swimming pool. Just a short distance away is the fishing village of La Caleta de Famara, with a small number of restaurants and bars.

Posted in Costa Teguise Property at 4:55 am by admin
On the Canary Island of Lanzarote there are three main holiday destinations and therefore three main property areas for property buying. These areas are Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca. Costa Teguise property is varied and offers something to suit all tastes. Make a property search in Costa Teguise and get an idea of the current property market prices. There are some great sea front apartments that are perfect for a few holidays a year that you can rent out whilst not there and hopefully cover the cost of the mortgage, plus earn some money in the value of the property.
There are a few different areas to Costa Teguise with different styles of property. One such area is ‘Ciudad Jardin’ which is about 2 kilometres in land and set slightly apart from the rest of Costa Teguise. The building plots are all large with nice detached properties often with swimming pools, off road parking etc etc. If you are looking for an up market type of property then this is the area for you.
Costa Teguise is made up of several beaches the largest of which is Play de las Cucharas. This is a great beach to either sit back and enjoy the sunshine whilst the children play in the sheltered surf or for the more active it is one of Europes best windsurfing beaches. Around the beach there are numerous shops and bars where you can hire or buy windsurf and surf equipment or sit outside and enjoy some lunch and a drink.
Costa Teguise was purposely built as a tourist destination and is therefore well laid out with good roads and no traffic jams. Costa Teguise also boasts Lanzarotes only golf course set just a few kilometres inland just past the Agua Park.
In comparison to the other main holiday destinations of Lanzarote Costa Teguise is quieter than Puerto del Carmen and much closer to the airport than Playa Blanca. A taxi ride from the airport should take about 15 minutes.
Weather is perfect all year round with a cooling summer breeze and warm winter sun.

Lanzarote estate agents are mainly congregated around the areas with most property sales.
The largest overseas property buyers sector in Lanzarote is currently from English buyers and therefore almost all estate agents in Lanzarote speak very good english. Many of the estate agents in Lanzarote are English with a very good level of Spanish and obviously understand of how the Lanzarote property buying system works.
The Estate agent offices in Lanzarote are found in the areas of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise. These are the three most popular holiday destinations on Lanzarote and therefore generate the most largest property markets on the island. These areas are also recommended as good areas for renting out your new property whilst you are not using it.
Estate agents work hard spending a lot of time helping clients to view properties and answer any further questions they may have regarding properties they are interested in. On the whole the estate agent through which you buy your property will be happy to help you with all aspects of your property purchase from the accompanying you to the signing of the property to getting the facilities like water, electiricity and phone connected even to help moving over and setting up bank accounts. Do not be afraid to ask any questions to the estate agents as they will have heard most any question before and will have an answer to hand.
The property buying system in Spain and the Canary Islands works differently to the system in the UK. It is a notary typed system similar to that found in Jersey in the Channel Islands. The notary is an appointed and independant person whose job it is to check over all paper work, payments etc for each property purchase so that all is correct and in order. If you are in any doubt you can also appoint your own solicitor to make extra checks on the property and associatted paper work. Properties can sometimes come with debts attached from the previous owner, for example, and your solicitor will be able to check things like this. Remember the ultimate responsibility lays with you the buyer so if in doubt get another opinion. On your visit to the notary, if you do not understand Spanish, a translater will be appointed to you to make sure you fully understand what is said and written in the documentation. If you are getting a mortgage locally you Lanzarote bank manager will also be present to check over the paperwork as they are also accepting a risk against your new property.
The language and system are different to the UK but resst assured that thousands of english people buy property in Lanzarote every year and encounter no problems what so ever. It is good for the Lanzarote economy to have overseas money coming into the island so everything is done to protect the good reputation of the area and make your property buying experience as painless and safe as possible.
