Famara Surf

Famara beach in Lanzarote offers the family and surfer some great conditions, secenary and sunbathing all year round. The beach is set against the dramatic back drop of the cliff of the El Risco which rise up vertically some 650 metres to their summit. Famara beach is a 4 kilometre stretch of golden sand beach with varying surfing conditions all along its stretch.

The surf along the beach is varied as is the access to the beach. At the very beginning of the beach nearest to the local town of Caleta de Famara are several surf shops where you can buy or hire all the equipment necessary for a great time surfing the waves on the beach or other nearby reefs. From the beginning called ‘El Codo’ (the elbow) you will find differing quality of waves right to the very end called Papalios which is accessible via a track. Normally the Famara surf is smaller at either end of the beach and bigger and more powerful towards the middle. The most popular area for experienced surfers is at the bottom of the track that starts up behind the Famara Bungalows.

There are several surf schools that will be more than happy to teach you how to surf. You will see them on the beach or easily find their offices in the town of Famara. The surf schools will supply all equipment and instruction necessary to get you up and running on your own.

Famara beach is a great family destination and a favourite for many people that find themselves returning year after year to enjoy all that the beach and surrounding areas have to offer.
