Spains Labor Minister Mr Goméz has some tough decisions to make in light of the countries high unemployment and economic position.
Whilst the French are up in arms by the news that retirement age is rising from 60 to 62 Mr Gomez hopes the Spanish will not be so miffed. Plans are set to take the retirement age in Spain from 65 to 67. With less money in the coffers and higher life expectancy changes are seen as being imperative for the economic survival of the country.
Mr Gomez was quoted as saying “Governments can’t stand aside, can’t let their debts and budget gaps grow into uncharted territory, the retirement age must keep rising because life expectancy is rising and the population is aging.”
Spain is now making visible cuts in raising tax collection and cutting spending.

The number of tourists visiting Spain has now been rising for five consecutive months compared to the same months last year. In total there was a 4.2 per cent increase over last years figures. Visitors from the UK and Germany accounted for over half the total amount.
The biggest growth was seen in the amount of German tourists. The recovery of the German economy has bolstered spending and created an increase of over 11% in visiting Germans.
Tourism accounts for a tenth of the Spanish income making this significantly good news.

The Summer 2010 issue 58 of the Canary Islands longest established property magazine is out now. You can get your free copy from the freedom4sale.com web site.

As ever there is a property price guide running through out the magazine. The magazine is broken down into sections for each of the main islands of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. The Lanzarote property section has a green color code on the edge of each page. In these island sections you will find property articles referring to that area, a selection of properties running through the section from estate agents and adverts from estate agents in that area. This way you can flick straight to the Canarian island in which you want to buy your villa, apartment or plot of land and get all the information you could need. Remember if you cannot find what you want in the magazine then the web site will definitely be able to help. You could also directly contact any of the estate agents in the magazine who are all very professional and pleased to be of any assistance.

This issue has got some good property news for overseas buyers:

The Spanish government have launched the Austerity fund to save expenditure and bring the economy back under control. Fast internet connections coming to the Canaries. Spanish repossessions at record levels. Jet2 putting on more flights to the Canaries.

We talk to the Fuerteventura estate agent of Fuerteventura Residences to find out their views on all things property.

Andy Wells buys a house in Playa Blanca. He lets us follow him through the whole buying process from start to finish. Explains any problems he may have had and how these were overcome. Great reading and assurance for anyone on the verge of buying their dream property for sale in Playa Blanca.

Things work differently in different countries. There is a very useful article on the difference in how properties are measured in the UK and in Spain. Find out what these differences are and how to overcome them.

In the current bargain strewn property market in which we live we dig out some great potential purchases. This issue we focus in on Villas for sale with pools for under 300,000 euros. A few years ago this article would have been empty. Feast your eyes on what can be bought and some amazing value prices.

Enjoy this issue of Freedom4sale and remember that if you can afford it there has not been a time in the last 10 years as good as now to buy yourself a fantastic home or investment in guaranteed year round sun.

Record numbers of Canary Island Estate Agents are clambering for repossessed properties, despite continuing economic woes.

However, the country’s economic position continues to slide amid concerns about national debt. The Bank of Spain was forced recently to seize control of regional savings bank CajaSur, the latest challenge to Spain’s battered financial sector since the collapse of the housing bubble.

However the good news is agents are adapting to the present economic situation. Southern Spain markets have seen a lot of small, new property agencies spring up recently, and many of them have restructured their business models to cope with a tougher climate and a lot of below market value deals.

“There are a lot of sharp young agencies out there now who have positioned their offerings very professionally. They are smaller and they approach the market in a much more appropriate way.”

That siad, Canary Island property companies need to rebuild trust with both buyers and foreign agents.

“There is a lot of demand but several parameters have to be just right for the sale to work, from finance the legalities of the sale.”

Traditionally the two largest groups of overseas property investors in Europe were the British and Irish. These two groups are looking again for good returns on their money but investment styles have changed. Pre recession investment money was going to a whole host of emerging destinations across Europe. Places like Croatia and Bulgaria were at the forefront of the emerging markets.

Post recession people still bear the scars of the recent past and only want to invest in tried and tested destinations. Spain always received the bulk of property investment and it is here that investors are first returning to.

Investors are looking for a good return with a minimum of risk so are not keen to go back to high risk destinations.

Estate agents are quoting an average property price drop on pre to post recession prices of twenty five per cent. This is a very alluring figure to the shrewd investor. Many feel that resale prices cannot go any lower because of the base amounts owed on mortgages.
