There is a great new and informative Lanzarote property web site available.

The web site is broken down into the main property areas of Lanzarote and gives some good insights into each. The biggest areas described in this great web site are in property in Puerto del Carmen, property Playa Blanca and property in Costa Teguise.

These are the main areas of Lanzarote where the most tourism is found however more and more lovers of Lanzarote are looking off the beaten in area like Yaiza, Tias, or Punta Mujeres in the north. All of these quite different and interesting areas are well covered plus an idea of the starter prices for property like apartments, houses and villas plus the location of estate agents serving these areas.

Lanzarote is looking better and better for the buyer these days with prices levelling off a little to give a nice gap for the first time investor to break into the market or for a nice property upgrade.

The town of Famara on the north west coast of Lanzarote is recognised as one of the most beautiful places in Lanzarote and the Canary islands.

The area offers a break away from the hustle and bussle of the more populated main stream tourist areas and gives a unique view of the natural rugged beauty of Lanzarote.

Famara is split into the Famara bungalows and the town of Famara, know as ‘La Caleta de Famara’.

The Famara bungalows were built around 25 years ago by Norwegians looking to build winter holiday homes. Since then the area has gained popularity due to its amazing position and views.

The Famara bungalows are now a very popular holiday destination enjoying a large amount of repeat business. The area is not very marketted so needs a bit of finding, once found and enjoyed it has a tremendous draw. It is possilbe to find a famara bungalow to rent for around 500 euros per week that sleeps four in two bedrooms.

Famara is something of an alternative village, away from the tourist route.

The place with its small white houses dotted about in random fashion, lies in a wide, open landscape at the foot of mighty cliffs.

The roads in the village are mostly just sandy tracks and the beach is wild and left to nature. There is a complex of bungalows which climbs the slope which can be rented and make a fantastic holiday away fro it all. A northerly wind blows almost always, creating great waves for the happy surfer. Surfers come here to ride the world-class waves; the rest of us come to just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet….

Famara bungalows…

are unique – located on the lower slopes of the cliffs, they are half-moon shaped and set in their own gardens, and all are just a stone’s throw from the beach.

In Famara one can eat well at a reasonable price, especially if one enjoys fresh local fish. One can sit here with the unique backdrop of cliffs and listen to the sound of the waves.

Famara is unlike anywhere else on Lanzarote. It boasts the longest beach on the island, with a stunning backdrop of 2000′ cliffs.

People love Famara because of its laid-back atmosphere, barely touched by tourism.

There is a restaurant, bar and shop on site, as well as a communal swimming pool. Just a short distance away is the fishing village of La Caleta de Famara, with a small number of restaurants and bars.

Lanzarote property sales are represented by many different estate agents. The main areas on the island for tourism and therefore most sought after and developed are Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca. In each of these areas there are plenty of estate agents to chose from. It is easy to make contact with the agents in these areas and get an idea of what the market is like. It is a good idea to start to build a rapour with some of the agents before arriving for your viewing trip.

A good listing of English speaking lanzarote estate agents can be found by clicking this line

To find estate agents in puerto del carmen area click this line

Click here for estate agents in costa teguise

Click here for estate agents in Playa Blanca

All of the estate agents on the freedom4sale web site are reputable, english speaking and been around for a while.

A good way to start the property buying process in your chosen area of Lanzarote is as follows:-

The key points are to get organised and make notes, build up a good idea of the local property market and what you want. Always keep in mind why you are buying the property and what you need from it.

1 – Have a good look on the web before visiting and get an idea of the current market prices. A good web site to start with is the freedom4sale site, this is not an estate agents own site but an independant site featuring estate agents properties across lanzarote

2 – Make property enquiries asking all the pertinent questions you can think of.

3 – Make a short list of all the estate agents and properties you want to view on you trip over to lanzarote, create a day to day diary and book in all the viewings you wish to make. After each viewing make notes of what you think of each property. Create a ranking scheme on the issues that are important to you for example ‘rentability’, ‘distance from beach’, ‘views’, etc etc. Its amazing how quickly you can forget the finer details of each property once a few have been seen.

4 – Again be prepared with a list of questions for the estate agent showing you each property. Remember they will have a lot more knowledge of the local area.

5 – Narrow down you shortlist and revisit your favourites. Sometimes you will know when you see the right property, sometimes it takes a lot of whittling down and hard work to arrive at the one you want. Other times you may not find it on your first trip.

6 – Do not let yourself be rushed. Give yourself time to think before coming to a final decision.

7 – The whole process can be very stressful and nerve racking but remember that Lanzarote is part of the EEC and the property purchasing system is well established and solid.

8 – If in any doubt seek advice, there is plenty available.

Lanzarote has four main towns / tourism and business centres. In each of these you will find a large range of property including studios, apartments, villas, land, bars and other businesses from the islands best estate agents

The island government or Cabildo of Lanzarote with the influence of Lanzarote’s most famous artist, Cesar Manrique, actively aims to preserve the natural beauty of the Island.

All residential building cannot be higher than two storeys and should be painted white.

There are many protected areas or national parks where building is not allowed.

Coastline:-

Starting from the north of the island

The island has a beautiful rugged northeastern coastline that has white beaches from sand blown over from Sahara desert.

Moving down east coast to Arrieta/Punta Mujeres, a local fishing community, nice beach with bar.

Then Costa Teguise, Arrecife, Airpot, Puerto del Carmen, Puerto Calero a nice marina with restarants and bars, not a lot then until Playa Blanca in the south.

Coming up around the west coast much less population mainly due to harsher weather and high seas. Some places of interest and scenic beauty.

Firstly el golfo salt lake and los herbidores blow holes.

Then el golfo town and green lake tourist attraction.

Timanfaya National park, most recent volcanic eruptions (mid 1800′s) moon like landscape, you can still cook from heat just below the surface.

La Santa sports complex, athletes from all over europe come to train. European surf destination in winter.

Famara beach, dramatic long sand beach with ship wreck and high cliff backdrop.

Cesar Manrique house at top of cliffs, very impressive.

Then back to top with Orzola fishing village in very north, small harbour and ferry to island of La GraciosaMain Areas:-

Main areas in detail

1 – Arrecife: the capital and commercial centre. The islands main shipping port. Where you go for residencias d things legal i.e. Notaries, law courts etc. Little tourist accomodation, some historical tourist attractions and good shopping. Very late spanish style nightlife at weekends.

2 – Puerto del Carmen: The islands oldest and most established tourist centre. Comprising one main road along the beach (the strip) along which there are many bars, restaurants, shops etc etc. A few beaches along the strip, accomodation behind. Plenty of nightlife.

3 – Costa Teguise: 20 mins drive north from Puerto del Carmen and the second most established area for tourism. Was planned from the start as a tourist area so well laid out with good access and parking. Aprox 5 beaches. European destination for windsurfers. Plenty of English bars and restaruants. Not so much nightlife and more spread out than Puerto del Carmen. Islands only current golf course.

4 – Playa Blanca: Situated at the very south of the island. The newest and fastest developing area of the island. Loads of new building going on. New golf course and marina soon to be completed. Few nice local beaches in town and the beautiful beaches of papagayo just outside.
